Will Seattle Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu be fired soon?

By Allan

Ryan Divish of The News Tribune says that there is growing speculation that Seattle Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu could be fired this week. Divish says that GM Jack Zduriencik should make the logical move given the team’s 6-22 July record and its current seven-game losing streak.

The poor performance, in addition to the recent dugout altercation involving Chone Figgins, and the retirement of Ken Griffey Jr. are all points that go against Wakamatsu that upper management should take into consideration. It doesn’t help that the team may have already quit on their field manager as Bob Nightengale of USA Today points out.

Rather than let this drag out, the Mariners should fire Wakamatsu and prepare for the 2011 season. Maybe they can get on some kind of run and prevent a 100-loss season and maybe get the satisfaction of derailing another team from a playoff berth.
