St. Louis Cardinals looking at Pittsburgh Pirates Andy LaRoche
ByThe St. Louis Cardinals aren’t leaving any stone unturned in their pursuit for a third baseman. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review’s Rob Biertempfel says the Cardinals are eyeing Pittsburgh Pirates’ infielder Andy LaRoche as a possible trade target if he can clear waivers.
The Cardinals’ third baseman, David Freese, is out for the year due to a right ankle injury that he suffered this week. The Cardinals are currently using Felipe Lopez and Aaron Miles at third base. Newly promoted Allen Craig could take over, but the team may need a more experienced player to man the position.
Some names that have been mentioned as possible trade candidates include Boston Red Sox’ Mike Lowell, the Baltimore Orioles’ Ty Wigginton or Houston Astros’ Pedro Feliz.
LaRoche, 26, is hitting .223/.290/.299 for the Pirates this season.
