San Francisco Giants discussing OF Jose Guillen
ByAccording to Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News, the San Francisco Giants are discussing outfielder Jose Guillen of the Kansas City Royals. The Royals designated Guillen for assignment yesterday, so the team has 10 days to place Guillen on waivers, trade him or release him.
Baggarly speculates that Guillen could platoon with Pat Burrell in the outfield. Which may not necessarily make since both players are right-handed batters.
If Guillen could be acquired for a “pittance” with the Royals picking up most of the money, Baggarly says, then there’s a good chance the Giants will acquire him.
The Giants won’t be alone in the hunt for Guillen. Earlier today, we heard the New York Yankees have interest in acquiring the DH/OF.
Guillen, 34, is in the final season of a three-year, $36 million deal. He has 16 home runs, 62 RBIs and batting .255.
