San Francisco Giants acquire Jose Guillen from Kansas City Royals

By Allan

The San Francisco Giants have acquire outfielder Jose Guillen from the Kansas City Royals according to a rival executive close to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSport. The executive said the trade is “done.” Rosenthal also added that the Royals will send cash to off-set Guillen’s salary, and in return the Giants will send a player to be named later. It’s likely that the player is one that has yet to clear waivers.

Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes was the first to report that the Royals and Giants were close to completing a trade for Guillen. Rojas adds that if the trade is completed in time, Guillen will play Friday versus the San Diego Padres. The Giants host the Padres in San Francisco for a three game series starting tonight.

Earlier this week, the Dodgers expressed interest in acquiring Guillen.

Guillen was designated for assignment by the Kansas City Royals last week. The outfielder/DH has about $4 million left on his $12 million contract before he becomes a free agent after the season.

One of the bigger problems with Guillen is the personality that he brings to the table, so buyer beware. Last week, an executive close to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated said “no contender” should take Guillen because his personality and clubhouse reputation may be the second worst to Milton Bradley.

Guillen, 34, was hitting .255/.314/.429 this season for the Royals.
