Pedro Martinez rejects offers from several teams to stay retired
By
The Associated Press reports that Pedro Martinez has rejected offers from several teams over the past two weeks to stay retired. The three-time Cy Young Award winner says he was flattered by the invitations.
The 38-year-old right-hander tells The Associated Press on Thursday he was “really happy” to receive the latest offers and calls them “very tempting.” He did not say which teams pursued him.
Jim Bowden of FOXSports says that Martinez is leaving the door open for a comeback in 2011. He said he is completely healthy and he will decide how much he misses the game.
He last pitched in 2009 with the Philadelphia Phillies where he went 5-1 with a 3.63 ERA in nine starts to help the team get to the World Series.
