Oakland Athletics Rumors: Will A’s pick up options on Crisp, Ellis, Chavez and Geren?

By Allan

The Oakland A’s have a few questions to answer as soon as the season is done. Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle says one of the decisions the team will have to make is whether to pick up the options for Coco Crisp, Mark Ellis, Eric Chavez and manager Bob Geren.

Crisp is a good bet to return, Slusser Says. He has an option for $5.75 million and is an excellent defensive player and can handle hitting in the leadoff spot.

Ellis has an option at $6 million, and might be the biggest question mark. “Obviously, I’d like to stay here,” Ellis said, “but I’m not even going to think about it until they do something. Last time, I thought about it, and it didn’t do me any good.” He has been with the team for nine years and is a front-office favorite.

Chavez is unlikely going to return considering how little he has been able to play. He has a $12.5 million team option, but the team will likely buyout the option for $500,000.

Slusser says that Geren will likely be back. “I don’t concern myself with things like that,” Geren said before Sunday’s game. “I’m a day-to-day kind of guy.”
