New York Mets plan to pick up Jose Reyes’ club option this winter
By
According to a person familiar with the New York Mets’ thinking, told the New York Post (via Mark Hale) that the team plans to pick up Jose Reyes‘ club option this winter.
He has an $11 million club option for 2011, and the team wants to explore another long-term deal.
Reyes is more concentrated on now versus next year. “Right now I don’t think about that,” he said.
“I want to finish my career here,” Reyes said. “But this is a business.”
Hale says the Mets have until November 15 to exercise his option. The Mets could have further options – they could sign him to a long-term deal that replaces the option, they could explore a trade or they can re-evaluate a deal during or after the 2011 season.
Reyes, 27, is in his eighth year with the Mets. He has a lifetime .286/.335/.433. His best year was arguably 2006 when he hit .330/.354/.487 with 19 home runs and 81 RBIs.
