Los Angeles Dodgers have strong interest in Jose Guillen

By Allan

According to sources close to Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes, the Los Angeles Dodgers have strong interest in Jose Guillen for a part-time role.

Guillen was designated for assignment by the Kansas City Royals last week. The outfielder/DH has about $4 million left on his $12 million contract before he becomes a free agent after the season. The Tampa Bay Rays, San Francisco Giants and the Atlanta Braves have been mentioned in his rumor mill before the July Trade Deadline. Despite playing most of his games as designated hitter this season, Guillen regularly plays the outfield and has a solid arm.

One of the bigger problems with Guillen is the personality that he brings to the table, so buyer beware. Last week, an executive close to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated said “no contender” should take Guillen because his personality and clubhouse reputation may be the second worst to Milton Bradley.

Guillen, 34, was hitting .255/.314/.429 this season for the Royals.
