Jhonny Peralta wants to stay with Detroit Tigers for 2011

By Allan

Jhonny Peralta has been with the Detroit Tigers for less than one month, and he’s already to eager to stay another year with the team, according to John Lowe of the Detroit Free Press.

“I want to be here,” Peralta said. “I hope they pick up the option. But I want to be here. I like everybody here.”

The ball is in the Tigers’ court with Peralta’s $7 million club option for 2011, and they may do that given what the team has seen in the month that Peralta has been in town. The 28-year-old infielder has hit six home runs in a Tigers’ uniform, and in his career he has had three seasons of at least 20 home runs, so he’s capable of providing the offensive pop that the Tigers desperately need.
Entering Friday’s game, Peralta was hitting .244/.310/.405. He’s making $4.6 million this season in the final season of his five-year contract.
