Jeff Francoeur expected to meet with GM to discuss trade options

By Allan

ESPN’s Adam Rubin says outfielder Jeff Francoeur is expected to meet with General Manager Omar Minaya to ask about trade options. Francoeur is expected to see his playing time significantly decrease now that he will be platooning with Fernando Martinez. Francoeur will likely starting when the team faces left-handed pitching.

Francoeuer has been the subject of trade rumors throughout July. However, many of those talks were shelved when Jason Bay was placed on the disabled list. When Bay returns, Francoeuer will likely get less playing time. Jerry Crasnick of ESPN said last week that the New York Mets think they can trade Francoeur in August. There were talks of him being shipped off to Kansas City, especially since Francoeuer has a relationship with the Royals GM Dayton Moore from their time in Atlanta together. Francoeuer will unlikely get claimed on waivers.

Francoeuer, 26, is hitting .241/.295/.378 with 10 home runs and 46 RBIs for the Mets this season.
