According to Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, the Indians have acquired catcher Luke Carlin from the Pittsburgh Pirates for a player to be named later. Carlin will be assigned to Triple-A Columbus.
Carlin, 29, is a lifetime .152/.246/.223 hitter. He last played in the Major Leagues in 2009 with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
