8/12 08:44: According to Chris Dimino of 790 The Zone, Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones is out for the season with a torn ACL in his left knee.
Jones injured the knee when he made a play in the sixth inning on Tuesday night versus the Houston Astros. According to David O’Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, he fielded Hunter Pence’s grounder near the third-base line, and leaped to make a cross-the-body throw to first base.
There has been speculation that Jones may retire after this season. Jones has been meeting periodically with team president John Schuerholz and GM Frank Wren about his future, but he did not want to distract the team from their playoff pursuit or from Bobby Cox’s final season as manager.
Jones, 38, was hitting .263/.380/.422 with 10 home runs and 46 RBIs.
