Carlos Delgado agrees to deal with Boston Red Sox

By Allan

According to a source close to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports, free agent Carlos Delgado has agreed to a Minor League deal with the Boston Red Sox. The deal includes a clause that requires Delgado to be on the Major League active roster by September 1 or he can become a free agent.

The power hitting first baseman worked out for the Red Sox yesterday at Yankee Stadium while the team was in town. Delgado, coming off arthroscopic surgery on his right hip, has not played since May 10, 2009. Rosenthal said earlier this week that he had received two minor-league offers and would need a couple of weeks in the minors to get ready, according to his agent, David Sloane. In addition to the Red Sox, the White Sox, Rockies and Mariners were other potential suitors.
