Update – Adam Dunn claimed on waivers by Dodgers?

By Allan

8/6 12:41:Henry Schulman of SF Chronicle believes the Dodgers were awarded the claim on Dunn.  Could Dunn have been claimed by the Dodgers to block the Giants or another team from obtaining him or could they have legitimate interest in him.

8/6 10:52: Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News says that he has not been able to confirm that the Giants were awarded the waiver claim on Dunn. He adds that GM Brian Sabean hinted strongly that the club would place a claim. Baggarly think the Colorado Rockies went for the block.

8/5 13:04: A Major League source close to FOXSports.com (via Jon Paul Morosi), says that Washington Nationals’ slugger Adam Dunn was claimed on trade waivers today.

Per the waiver rules, the Nationals will now have to negotiate with this club between now and Monday. If the two parties cannot come to an agreement, the Nationals can pull Dunn back from waivers. Had Dunn cleared waivers, the Nationals would have been free to negotiate a trade with all 29 teams.

Dunn is due approximately $4 million over the final two months of this season, and Morosi speculates that another team valued Dunn at this dollar figure. As recently as Tuesday, Buster Olney speculated that the Colorado Rockies and San Francisco Giants could put in a claim.

Dunn is batting .277/.365/.578 with a league-best 28 home runs and 71 RBIs.
