Yahoo’s Tim Brown on Trade Deadline Buzz: Dodgers, Ben Sheets, Texas Rangers, New York Yankees
ByYahoo Sports’ Tim Brown has a few pieces of MLB Trade Deadline Buzz:
- The Dodgers have been very aggressive their pursuit of pitching for both the rotation and the bullpen. They have been calling the Houston Astros on Roy Oswalt, the Chicago Cubs on Ted Lilly, the Arizona Diamondbacks on Danny Haren and the Cleveland Indians on Jake Westbrook and Fausto Carmona. The team also is interested in all or parts of the Toronto Blue Jays bullpen in Scott Downs, Jason Frasor and Kevin Gregg.
- The Oakland Athletics haven’t decided how they’ll position themselves for the deadline. They could use their depth of pitching to swing a trade. One name that always comes up – Ben Sheets.
- The Texas Rangers are looking for a right-handed bat. Jorge Cantu and Mike Lowell are candidates to be acquired.
- The New York Yankees are not too concerned about Andy Pettitte’s groin injury. They consider their bench their primary concern. The team likes Oswalt, but do not want to take on his contract.
