Ted Lilly Rumors: New York Yankees interested in Lilly?
By
The Mets aren’t the only New York team that covets the left-handed pitcher from the Chicago Cubs. According to Bruce Levin of ESPNChicago.com, the Yankees could be interested in Ted Lilly because veteran left-handed pitcher Andy Pettitte is probably headed to the disabled list due to a groin injury.
Sounds familiar? Earlier, PRO Rumors speculated that Yankees could be going after Lilly for this same reason.
Other teams interested in Lilly include the Detroit Tigers, Minnesota Twins and Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Cubs and the Mets have discussed Lilly to some extent since the Cubs have dispatched scouts to the Mets’ farm system to scout three of their pitching prospects.
Cubs GM Jim Hendry was asked whether he feels he needs to make a trade at this time. “We don’t feel the need for people to be dumped since we’re ten games back. A lot of time what the public thinks fits for a club, may not be. And so you can’t force trades. At the same time, even if you want to [make trades], that doesn’t mean you get what you wish [for].”
