Ted Lilly and Dan Haren rumors: Will they waive their no-trade clause?

By Allan

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports says that no-trade clauses often complicate deals. For example, Ted Lilly of the Chicago Cubs can reject trades to ten teams, and the only contending clubs that Lilly will okay are the Minnesota Twins and Philadelphia Phillies. Rosenthal adds that it’s not clear if the Twins or Phillies are interested in Lilly’s services.

The New York Mets seem determined to make a deal for Lilly with the Cubs doing their homework by scouting three of the Mets’ prospects.

Another pitcher with a no-trade clause is Arizona Diamondbacks’ ace Dan Haren. Haren can reject trades to twelve clubs, including the Reds. However, a source close to Rosenthal says his no-trade clause is not a factor. The big problem with Haren is that he’s not pitching that well. Haren is tied for the Major League lead with 21 home runs allowed and his ERA is 4.60.

Nothing publicly is in the works for Haren, but the Los Angeles Dodgers are looking for starting pitching, and if the Dbacks are willing to trade within the division and the Dodgers can create financial flexibility, then it could be a match.
