St. Louis Cardinals Rumors: Cards could acquire everyday player by Trade Deadline

By Allan

GM John Mozeliak said the St. Louis Cardinals probably will not add a bench player by Saturday’s Trade Deadline, but he left open the possibility that the Cards could acquire an everyday player, according to MLB.com.

MLB.com says, “An everyday player, however, holds interest for the club. Mozeliak said that the return of David Freese from an ankle injury, whenever that happens, would not have a significant impact on the club’s shopping list.”

“I don’t feel it’s affecting it one way or another,” Mozeliak said. “Because we’re not looking at just some short-term band-aid. If we really were going to go that route, we should have done it, in hindsight, a month ago.”

The Cards would then have interested in adding a starting middle infielder – one that would be with the club beyond the 2010 season. Players that fit that mold would include Florida Marlins’ Dan Uggla and Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Stephen Drew.
