St. Louis Cardinals looking for a bat to replace Ryan Ludwick?

By Allan

Right fielder Ryan Ludwick of the St. Louis Cardinals will be headed to the disabled list for a strained right calf before tonight’s game versus the Milwaukee Brewers, according to Rick Hummel of The St. Louis Post-Dispatch. In doing so, the Cards will be lose the offensive power that Ludwick provides until at least the All-Star break.

GM John Mozeliak said the club may have to seek outside help to replace Ludwick and to kick start their sagging offense.

“We need something to get (the club) moving,” Mozeliak said. “I’d consider anything at this point. We have roughly 30 days (until the July 31 trading deadline without waivers) to try to work through something, and I assure you we’ll use that time wisely.”

The Cardinals have Randy Winn to help out in the meantime, but they could also use a veteran power bat such as free agent Jermaine Dye. Dye is currently fielding interest from the San Diego Padres, Colorado Rockies and Texas Rangers.

Another option could be the Milwaukee Brewers Corey Hart or Chicago Cubs Kosuke Fukudome – two names that have been in the rumor mill. However, it is unlikely if their inter-division rivals would make a trade.
