Update – San Francisco Giants Rumors: Need bat and relief – talks with Brewers regarding Fielder or Hart are dead

By Allan

7/27 16:43: Hank Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle tweets, “2 things I heard today: 1) Giants still actively searching for a bat AND relief, tho market is tough. 2) As of this a.m. ….talks with Milwaukee regarding [Prince] Fielder or [Corey] Hart were “dead in the water.”

7/27 16:07: A Major League source close to Jon Paul Morosi and Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports say the Giants are still pursuing Washington’s Josh Willingham, along with Kansas City’s Scott Podsednik and Jose Guillen, major-league sources say.

FOXSports adds that the Giants will face competition from the Braves for Willingham, but the Nats may keep him especially if they trade Adam Dunn.

7/26 21:47: Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star tweets, “Also multiple teams are tracking #Royals OF/DH Jose Guillen. Wouldn’t be surprised to see something pop there in next few days.”

7/26 19:43: Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated says that the Kansas City Royals are “peddling” outfielder-designated hitter Jose Guillen, he suggests that the San Francisco Giants may consider Guillen if they can’t acquire Milwaukee Brewers’ Corey Hart or Toronto Blue Jays’ Jose Bautista.

The Giants had a scout on hand last week to watch Guillen. Guillen is known for not being a leader in the clubhouse, and it’s possible that he could hurt the Giants’ in the long-run if the team acquired him. Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports  added at the time that in addition to the Giants, the New York Yankees, New York Mets, Boston Red Sox and San Diego Padres had interest in Guillen.

Earlier this month the San Francisco Giants and the Brewers were negotiating for Hart. The Giants were expected to trade left-handed pitcher Jonathan Sanchez.

The San Francisco Giants, Detroit Tigers, Chicago White Sox and Atlanta Braves have all been interested in MLB home run leader Bautista. The 29-year-old has 29 home runs this season. Bautista is signed through 2010 for $2.4 million.
