San Diego Padres Rumors: Jed Hoyer on starting pitching, acquiring a bat, Mat Latos, Bud Black, Chris Young
By
Jim Bowden of FOXSports and XM 142 spoke with San Diego Padres general manager Jed Hoyer, and he had a few pieces of news on the state of the Padres:
Hoyer said that a bat is his number one priority, but he also said that they need to acquire a starter to eat up innings. He may go after a starter in August.
Hoyer is not sure if Chris Young will make it back from injury this year.
It was a blessing that Mat Latos went on the disabled list because the team was going to option him to the Minors to give him a break.
The Padres think that they need some protection for Adrian Gonzalez, but it may be a bat ahead of Gonazalez in the order to get on-base instead of behind him.
Manager Bud Black and the Padres were negotiating for a month, and the reasons of the deal had nothing to do with wins or losses. Black’s option had to be picked up by August 1st, and they didn’t want to get to that point.
