Update – San Diego Padres Rumors: Both buyers and sellers?

7/1 14:04: “It’s always a good thing when you’re talking about adding,” first baseman Adrian Gonzalez said, according to Dan Hayes of the North County Times. “In our case, it means we’re in a good place — first place.
“I definitely think we have the bats,” said Scott Hairston. “There are a few guys that are starting to come on late. We’re in first place now for a reason. We’ve had timely hitting and the pitching all year. I really don’t see a need for that — getting another bat.”
7/1 09:55: San Diego Padres owner Jeff Moorad said his team will consider adding payroll to make a move which may include offensive players and a starting pitcher.
“I don’t feel like you’re ever all set,” Hoyer said. “I think we’re looking on both sides [pitching and offense].”
In order to make this happen, the team could trade All-Star closer Heath Bell. Bell is relatively affordable and will be arbitration-eligible after the season. Corey Brock of MLB.com suggests that if they trade Bell, they could land a package of prospect/Major League ready players.
