San Diego Padres Rumors: Berkman, Oswalt, Dye, Dunn, Willingham, Hart

By Allan

“I think we’re good enough right now to win the division,” first baseman Adrian Gonzalez said. “But do we want to be satisfied with that? Do we want to be happy with just getting there?”

Bill Center of the Union-Tribune talks about what the San Diego Padres can do in order to get to that next steps of securing the division and going deep in the playoffs. He doesn’t expect the Padres to make an immediate move since the sellers are asking for too much now, so it’s possible the Padres could wait until August and acquire players via the waiver wire.

“It would be nice to add another bat,” GM Jed Hoyer said. That bat would be good in the form of an outfielder that can provide the team some depth.

Players that the Padres could acquire include Houston Astros Lance Berkman, who could play left field, and starting pitcher Roy Oswalt.

Jermaine Dye is attractive because he’s a free agent and the team would not have to give up prospects.

Other players that could be on the Pads’ wish list include Adam Dunn, Josh Willingham and Corey Hart.

Center says the Padres do not have much in regards to prospects in the Minors, but they may be willing to give up pitching prospects if they could get a young position player that they could control for a few years.
