Roy Oswalt wants 2012 team option guaranteed if traded
By
According to two sources close to Jayson Stark of ESPN, Roy Oswalt is asking the Philadelphia Phillies, or any team to acquires him, to guarantee his $16 million team option for 2012 before he would waive his no-trade clause.
The Phillies aren’t biting on that request.
Yesterday we heard that the Phillies and the Astros are working on a trade that would send Oswalt to Philadelphia. Oswalt has a no-trade clause in his contract and he is owed the remainder of his $15 million for this season, $16 million for next season and a $12 million team option for 2012 with a 2 million buyout.
Philadelphia is believed to have no problem paying most of the $25 million he’s owed through next year, but they do not want to pick up the $12 million 2012 option.
It’s believed that J.A. Happ will be sent from Philadelphia to Houston in this deal. The Astros had a scout, Doug Brocail, in Indianapolis to watch Happs last appearance.
