Roy Oswalt Funky Friday Trade Rumors
ByHere’s a running list of trade rumors for Houston Astros pitcher Roy Oswalt, so check back often. In case you’re not familiar with what going on, Oswalt is being dangled in front of the Cardinals, Phillies and the Twins.
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports just tweeted that the Twins have not contacted the Astros about Oswalt. He adds that the Dodgers are in on Oswalt but have a few minor issues to overcome. Those issues being, money and decent prospects.
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports says that the addition of Oswalt may be a luxury more than a necessity. He cites that the team really needs an innings-eater over an ace, and if they were to acquire Oswalt, it may deplete an already thinned out Cardinal farm system.
According to a National League executive close to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Astros have said the package in exchange for Oswalt must include two top prospects, a third minor-league player, and a young player who is “major-league ready.”
Amy K Nelson of ESPN.com tweets, “Source confirms Oswalt not changed stance on option being picked up, but for St. Louis, would be willing to restructure $ in deal.”
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports says that if Oswalt really wants to be traded, he should drop any demand for a potential suitor to exercise his $16 million club option for 2012. If Oswalt’s priority is to get out of Houston, then he should be flexible about his contract and his next club. Rosenthal adds that Astros owner, Drayton McLane is willing to include cash in a deal, but not much. One interested GM close to Rosenthal said that it might be impossible to satisfy both general manager, Ed Wade on players and McLane on dollars in an Oswalt trade.
