According to a press release by Brest Zubrs (via mister-baseball.com), the Pittsburgh Pirates have signed the first player from Belarus – sixteen year old Alex Lukashevich.

Lukashevich, a pitcher, is already in Florida participating in team activities.

Lukashevich is a two-time winner (2008 and 2010) of the Cup of the President of Poland tournament and was named one of the best players in the competition.

In 2009, Lukashevich was selected as one of 50 baseball players in Europe to train in the MLB European Academy in Tirrenia, Italy.
