Philadelphia Phillies looked hard at Mariners 3B Jose Lopez

By Allan

The Philadelphia Phillies are in need of infield depth to compensate for the injures to both Placido Polanco and Chase Utley until the infielders are back. According to Larry Larue of The News Tribune, the Phillies looked hard at third baseman Jose Lopez of the Seattle Mariners before the break. Larue adds, “In the Phillies’ ballpark, Lopez would be a power threat.”

Polanco is scheduled to have his first rehab game today and could return as early as this weekend. Utley could be back in late July or early August. If these injury schedules remain true, then a deal for an infielder may not happen, but if there are set backs, Phillies’ GM, Jorge Amaro Jr., could pull the trigger and make a deal for an infielder.

Lopez is hitting .240/.270/.340 with a 6 home runs in 2010 for the Mariners.
