Philadelphia Phillies GM on trades, infielders, pitching, Jayson Werth
ByPhiladelphia Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. answered a few questions about the state of the team. Here are the highlights from Todd Zolecki of MLB.com:
- Amaro has spoken with a few clubs about “possibilities” (including infield help). While nothing is in motion, the Phillies are pro-active and their needs may change come July 31 especially since he expects to have both Placido Polanco and Chase Utley back.
- Amaro is concerned about pitching, but that never ever stop. He adds that you can never have enough pitching.
- He says the team has enough resources in the “cupboard” to get somebody to make a difference and he would consider moving somebody from the 25-man roster in order to make a deal happen.
- Prospect Dominic Brown has performed well in Triple-A and he could “possibly” help the big league club this season, but it’s too early to tell.
- Amaro would not discuss Jayson Werth. One reporter asked if Amaro was feeling out Werth’s value on the market. Amaro responded with, “I don’t talk about rumors. I don’t talk about players, and I don’t talk about rumors.”
- The team could add payroll.
