Oakland Athletics Rumors: Ben Sheets a target for the Phillies and Twins?

By Allan

Susan Slusser of The San Francisco Chronicle says that Oakland Athletics starter, Ben Sheets, is a potential target for the Philadelphia Phillies and the Minnesota Twins.

Other potential trading chips include relievers Craig Breslow and Michael Wuertz. Both pitchers are drawing interest from the Detroit Tigers, but Slusser says that it would be extremely difficult to pry them away from the A’s.

.

Yesterday we heard that the Tigers need an innings eater, and they could be interested in Sheets as well.

A’s GM Billy Beane has previously said that he likes the influence that Sheets is having on his younger players, so he may not get traded. However, if the Tigers dangle some of their better prospects such as Ryan Strieby, Wilkin Ramirez, Casper Wells or Jeff Larish then it may be enough to entice Beane to pull the trigger.

Sheets signed a one-year, $10 million contract before the season, so the Tigers will be responsible for a little less than $5 million if he were to be traded today.
