New York Yankees in discussions with Royals over Joakim Soria

7/18 12:08: A source close to Frank Russo of NY Baseball Digest says the Yankees are in the “midst of ongoing discussion” with the Kansas City Royals regarding Soria.
“KC is very adamant with their demands in wanting at least one major league ready player and several prospects. I think that it’s a deal that ”Cash” has to make. “They’re not winning another championship with the way the bullpen is currently constructed. Brian has to do something soon. Other than Mariano, the bullpen has been a total “crap shoot.”
7/16 13:20: Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports says the New York Yankees would love to have Washington Nationals’ Adam Dunn and Kansas City Royals’ Joakim Soria. Rosenthal adds that that the Nationals price on Dunn is “exorbitant” and the Royals would need to be “overwhelmed” with an offer.
GM Kenny Williams of the Chicago White Sox wants Dunn bad. Dunn wants to stay in Washington, but the team doesn’t want to talk contract extension, and he’s a free agent after this year. The Yankees are looking for bench help.
Earlier today, Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated said that Soria is a long shot to go anywhere, and one GM said it would be a “surprise” if he was traded. However, Heyman adds that if they make the relief pitcher available, it will become a feeding frenzy among the buyers and both New York teams would be good candidates as a landing spot for Soria.
