Earlier today Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports said the Red Sox offered right-handed pitcher Ramon Ramirez to the Mets for catcher Rod Barajas until Barajas got hurt and went on the disabled list. A source close to Alex Speier of WEEI confirms that the Red Sox and Mets discussed a potential deal for Ramirez.
The source said the two sides discussed different scenarios (some including Barajas, and some not) in a potential trade, but the source indicated that the deal is “probably not going to happen at this point.”
Ramirez is 0-3 with a 4.69 ERA in 42 appearances for the Red Sox this season. Some clubs believe he could be more effective with a change of scenery.
