ByThe MLB non-waiver Trade Deadline is getting closer, so rumors are everywhere. Check out these PRO Rumors as you get closer to clocking out for the day:
(reading time: 5 minutes)
The bench and bullpen are the priorities for the Yankees, but don’t rule out Oswalt, Haren or even Westbrook. (Ken Rosenthal, FOX Sports)
The Yankees have one of their best pro scouts, Rick Williams, in Seattle to see the Red Sox and Mariners game. (Peter Abraham, Boston Globe)
The Mets GM Omar Minaya said “there’s no discussion at all” of changing managers. Minaya added, “I’m very happy with the job that he’s [Jerry Manuel] doing.” (Adam Rubin, ESPN New York)
The San Diego Padres are checking around for a hitter, but aren’t on the verge of making any trades, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports. Prices on the players are “too high” right now, but the Padres have been linked to the Brewer’s Corey Hart.
Morosi also adds that the Reds are looking for late-inning bullpen help. This may have changed now that the team has signed Jason Isringhausen to a Minor League deal. Morosi suggests the following teams that could part with relievers: the Blue Jays (Scott Downs, Jason Frasor, Casey Janssen); Mariners (David Aardsma, Brandon League); Pirates (Octavio Dotel, Joel Hanrahan, Javier Lopez); Orioles (Will Ohman); and A’s (Jerry Blevins, Brad Ziegler, Craig Breslow).
Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times suggest one deal the Mariners could make is Jose Lopez to the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers need a third baseman now since Brandon Inge is out four to six weeks.
The Cardinals have their focus on Roy Oswalt, but if they can’t acquire him, Jake Westbrook or Fausto Carmona of the Cleveland Indians would be a good fit for pitching coach Dave Duncan, according to Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
The New York Yankees have inquired about Cleveland Indians pitchers. No exact names mentioned, but Paul Hoynes of The Plain Dealer remind us that Kerry Wood and Jake Westbrook are free agents at the end of the season.
The Phillies too have their focus on Oswalt. If they can’t get him, maybe they have a reunion with Brett Myers. He’s been pitching great this year with the Astros, and he relatively cheap compared to Oswalt. (Bill Conlin, Philadelphia Daily News)
Jeffrey Flanagan of FOXSportsKansasCity.com says that Scott Podsednik would like to stay a Royal despite his name being mentioned in trade rumors.
