MLB Pitching trade rumors: Haren, Soria, Oswalt, Lilly, Marcum, Qualls
ByJon Heyman of Sports Illustrated talks about the available pitchers who could be moved before the July 31 trade deadline. Here are a few highlights:
Dan Haren, Arizona Diamondbacks: One GM said the asking price for haren is two starters plus bullpen help. Heyman says, “good luck identifying the team that can meet that price.” Another GM said “All their guys except (Justin) Upton and maybe (Ian) Kennedy are available.”
Joakim Soria, Kansas City Royals: It’s a long shot that he’ll go anywhere. A trade for Soria would “surprise” one GM.
Roy Oswalt, Houston Astros: Nobody wants to spend the $25 million left on Oswalt’s deal, plus some GMs are under the impressions that Oswalt wants his $16 million option for 2012 picked up.
Ted Lilly, Chicago Cubs: A few GMs said they believe the Mets make the most sense. Yesterday, the Cubs were said to be looking at a few Mets’ prospects for a possible deal.
Shaun Marcum, Toronto Blue Jays: One GM said, “I don’t think they’d move their young starters. That’s what’s gotten them where they are.”
Chad Qualls, Arizona Diamondbacks: He has a lot of guts and could work as a middle reliever for a contender.
