Minnesota Twins zeroing in on deal for Toronto Blue Jays pitchers? Downs, Frasor, Gregg or Marcum?

By Allan

Tom Pelissero of 1500ESPN.com says the Minnesota Twins are zeroing in on a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays. The targets of the trade are unknown, but the Blue Jays are known to be shopping several of their pitchers, including relievers Scott Downs, Jason Frasor and Kevin Gregg and possibly starter Shaun Marcum.

Pelissero says the asking price for Downs in the past has been an elite prospects, and that may lower the chances of the Twins making the acquisition.

The left-hander Downs is making $4 million this season and has a 2.45 ERA. He’s particularly effective against left-handers. Earlier this month, the Philadelphia Phillies also had interest in the lefty. One thing to note is that Downs will likely be a Type-A free agent after the season.

Frasor, 32, is 3-2 with a 4.26 ERA in 42 appearances this season. He will become a free agent at the end of this year, and is being paid $2.65 million. Frasor will likely be a Type B free agent after the season

The 32-year-old Gregg is 0-4 with a 3.82 ERA and 22 saves. He’s making $2.75 million this year, and there are club options for 2011-12 ($2 million and $4.5 million respectively) with a $750,000 buyout.

Marcum, 28, is 9-4 with a 3.36 ERA in 19 starts this season. Marcum is making $850,000 this season.
