Minnesota Twins Rumors: Team eyes pitching before Trade Deadline

By Allan

Kelly Thesier of MLB.com points out that the Minnesota Twins’ starting rotation posted a 1.06 ERA during their last turn, so the team may be focused on upgrading other parts before the July 31st Trade Deadline.

Earlier today, we heard that the Twins may be targeting Washington Nationals’ closer Matt Capps, but Thesier says the deal was deemed unlikely as it’s unclear if the Nationals are willing to deal Capps or what the cost might be.

Two starting pitchers that have popped up in Twins trade rumors are Houston Astros’ Roy Oswalt and Chicago Cubs’ Ted Lilly. Oswalts’ price tag may be too high for the small market Twins, and they may be on Lilly’s list of no-trade teams.

If history dictates itself this year, then expect Minnesota’s patience to pay off. Last year, the Twins waited until August to acquire starter Carl Pavano in a waiver trade with the Indians. They also added Jon Rauch and Ron Mahay during the month of August.
