Milwaukee Brewers officials meeting this week to determine Prince Fielder’s future?

By Allan

According to sources of Jon Paul Morosi and Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports, they say Brewers scouts are gathering in Milwaukee for a meeting that could influence the team’s approach to the July 31st trade deadline. They could decide in the coming days to make several of their veteran players available, including first baseman Prince Fielder and outfielder Corey Hart.

It’s been believed that Fielder would be made available this winter when more teams are likely to bid for his services. Fielder, 26, will be a free agent after the 2011 season and he may command as much as $200 million over eight years – a sum that the Brewers probably cannot afford.

FOXSports says that the Brewers may need to be overwhelmed by an offer in order to move either player, and owner Mark Attanasio has previously said the team is unlikely to rebuild.

“We think we have a very good team,” Attanasio told FOXSports.com. “Our intent isn’t to dismantle the team simply because we may not make the playoffs this year.”

Other players that will become free agents after this season and could be available include right-handed starter Dave Bush, infielder Craig Counsell and outfielders Jody Gerut and Jim Edmonds.
