Mike Lowell Rumors: Are the Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers still interested?

By Allan

Boston Red Sox third baseman, Mike Lowell, is doing well in the first three games of his rehab assignment at Triple-A Pawtucket. He’s batting .357 (5 for 14).

Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com says that despite his improved statistics, the two teams (the Rangers and Tigers) that have been most interested in Lowell appear to be headed in other directions.

The Texas Rangers are focused on acquiring Florida Marlins right-handed hitting infielder Jorge Cantu.

The Detroit Tigers are actively looking for bats since they lost Magglio Ordonez and Carlos Guillen to the disabled list. The team sent two scouts to Pawtucket to get a look at Lowell, but a source with direct knowledge of the Tigers’ thinking said it’s unlikely that Detroit will deal for Lowell.
