Los Angeles Dodgers Rumors: “Major transaction” coming? For a starting pitcher and reliever?

By Allan

Los Angeles Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti told Jim Bowden of Inside Pitch and FOXSports that he is looking for a starting pitcher and a reliever. Colletti added that he has the flexibility to make a “major” transaction.

In our National League West Buyer and Seller series that was posted yesterday, we talked about the Dodgers needs:

The Dodgers have been looking for starting pitching – a front-of-the-rotation type of guy. They wanted Cliff Lee, but that didn’t happen. They could be interested in Houston Astros’ Roy Oswalt or Arizona Diamondbacks’ Dan Haren (if the DBacks are willing to trade within the division), but the team is limited by the pending divorce of the McCourt family, the owners of the Dodgers. GM Ned Colletti could get creative and involve a third team to take on salary to get one of the stud pitchers.

The Dodgers could also use relief pitching. Manager Joe Torre doesn’t trust anyone other than Jonathan Broxton, Ronald Belisario and Hong-Chih Kuo, so if they continue to use this formula then they’ll be headed for failure.
