Los Angeles Dodgers Rumors: Looking to add a position player sometime in August?

By Allan

There’s no secret that the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs have been working on a deal for left-handed pitcher Ted Lilly that will likely result in a trade. You can see what has gone on with that deal by clicking here.

Dodgers GM Ned Colletti (via Tony Jackson of ESPNLosAngeles.com) fills us on what else the Dodgers have planned.

“For the time being, we have more or less exhausted the offensive piece,” Colletti said. “We have made a lot of calls, but nothing else is really available right now.”

Jackson says Colletti left the door open for possibly adding another position player sometime in August, after the non-waiver deadline passes. Colletti got a little financial flexibility when Dodgers’ owner Frank McCourt approved an addition $2 million to $3 million to the team’s $83 million payroll. The Dodgers already have added $700,000 in the Scott Podsednik trade, and if the team picks up Lilly, then they would add as much as $4.3 million.
