Los Angeles Dodgers looking at RHP Fausto Carmona and LHP Paul Maholm

By Allan

John Perrotto of the Beaver County Times says the Los Angeles Dodgers are looking at Cleveland Indians right-handed pitcher Fausto Carmona in addition to the previously mentioned left-handed pitcher Paul Maholm of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Carmona is relatively affordable and with a string of team options, he could be under team control though 2014. He’s prone to wildness and could falter under the pressure. The Mets could be a potential destination for Carmona, but he may not be able to handle the media and the fan base. At least Los Angeles isn’t as media intense as New York, so he may be able to thrive there.

Carmona, 26, is 9-7 with a 3.65 ERA in 19 starts for the Indians this season.

On Tuesday, Dejan Kavacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said that there are “no indications from the Pirates that Maholm or any player is on the trading block, though they have acknowledged that they will listen to offers.”

The Dodgers have been looking for starting and relief pitching. GM Ned Colletti recently told Jim Bowden of Inside Pitch and FOXSports that he has the flexibility for a “major” transaction.

Maholm, 28, is 6-7 with a 4.03 ERA and a 1.439 WHIP in 19 starts for the Pirates this season.
