Los Angeles Dodgers James Loney on the hot seat?
By
Are the days numbered for Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman James Loney? The expectations for a Major League first baseman are to hit the long ball and Loney is not doing that.
In 1954 at-bats over 5 seasons, Loney has hit 51 home runs. Granted, he’s hitting well overall with a .297/.356/.450 his escalating salary may have the Dodgers looking at other options.
It’s possible that he can develop the power later in his career, or a change in home ballparks could help his pull power to right field.
Loney is making $3.1 million this season in his first year of arbitration. He’ll likely make $5 million in 2011 and then jumping significantly more in 2012 – just before he becomes a free agent.
ESPN Insider suggests that 2011 is a make-or-break year for Loney since the team may be looking at a play for free-agents to be Adrian Gonzalez and Prince Fielder.
