The Los Angeles Angels have acquired right-handed pitcher Dan Haren from the Arizona Diamondbacks for left-handed pitcher Joe Saunders, Patrick Corbin, Rafael Rodriguez and a player to be named later (Tyler Skaggs). Dan Wioke of The Orange County Register was the first report the trade of Saunders.
Saunders, 29, was 6-10 with a 4.62 ERA in 20 starts for the Angels this season.
Corbin, 21, is a left-handed pitcher who has a career 17-5 mark with a 4.20 ERA in 2 seasons in the Angels’ low Minor League system. He has a 1.255 WHIP and a 3.90 SO/BB ratio.
Rodriguez, 25, is in his second year of the Angels’ Minor League system. He is a right-handed pitcher with a 0-4 mark in 68 relief appearances. He has a 1.806 WHIP and 1.00 SO/BB ratio in his two seasons.
The story is continuing to develop. You can see the running list of info below:
According to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic, the PTBNL will be Tyler Skaggs barring something unexpected. Skaggs was the Halos’ supplemental first-round selection (40th overall) in 2009. So far at low-A, he has gone 8-4 with a 3.61 ERA
According to Dan Wioke of The Orange County Register, the Los Angeles Angels have traded left-handed starting pitcher Joe Saunders. Saunders was pulled off the field during pregame activities in Texas.
Buster Olney of ESPN says the trade is to the Arizona Diamondbacks for Dan Haren.
Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports adds, “Saunders, Corbin, R. Rodriguez to #Dbacks. #Angels”
Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated: sounds like #dbacks did well getting saunders and 3 top prospects. will choose 4th player from short list.
Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Daily Republic adds that the player to be named later is not going to be Mike Trout. The Dbacks will have a list to pick from. He’s not sure when they have to decide.
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports tweets, “#Diamondbacks official says two of three prospects are “outstanding” – Corbin and PTBN.”
Buster Olney of ESPN reminds us via Twitter, “On the Haren trade, it’s worth remembering what Ariz. gave up: Brett Anderson, Carlos Gonzalez,C.Carter, A.Cunningham,G.Smith and Dana Eveland. In return, they get a middle-of-the-road lefty in Joe Saunders, a B-plus/A-minus prospect in Corbin, a journeyman reliever and a player to be named, who will not be an elite prospect. This will feed into perception Arizona had to move the $.”
