The Indians owe Westbrook near $4 million for the rest of this season, and Westbrook will receive a $2 million bonus if he gets traded.
7/30 13:54: Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports says the Cleveland Indians know they can move starting pitcher v but Rosenthal wonders if they could get the right price for him. Earlier this week, Jayson Stark of ESPN said that Westbrook seems like the most likely of the Indians’ starting pitchers to be traded. The other possible pitcher to be traded is Fausto Carmona.
Here’s an excerpt from PRO Rumors Top 10 MLB starting pitchers that could be traded by July 31.
Jake Westbrook, Cleveland Indians, RHP: Westbrook is a free agent after this season, and has about $4.48 million left on this year’s contract, so he’d be a good fit for a team that doesn’t want to take on payroll beyond this season. The Indians are in selling mode, and would like to get something for him instead of letting him walk, so expect the team to make a deal. The San Diego Padres and the New York Mets have been mentioned as possible future Westbrook employers.
