7/6 16:55: Dan Connolly of The Baltimore Sun says Atkins has cleared wiavers and was given his unconditional release.

6/27 08:47: The Orioles have officially designated Atkins for assignment, tweets Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com.

6/25 14:05: The Baltimore Orioles will likely place outfielder Luis Montanez on the disabled list and sparing infielder Garrett Atkins from being designated for assignment.  Jeff Zrebiec of The Baltimore Sun says Atkins’ roster spot is safe until at least later next week when outfielder Felix Pie is ready to be activated from the disabled list.

It was believed that Atkins’ time in Baltimore was coming to an end with the possibility of him being designated for assignment ever since the O’s acquired catcher-first baseman Jake Fox from the Oakland Athletics last week.
