Florida Marlins likely to keep Dan Uggla

By Allan

Despite the unlikelihood the Florida Marlins will make a serious run at the playoffs this year, their is indication that the club will not trade All-Star second baseman Dan Uggla.

According to Joe Frisaro of MLB.com, the club is considering keeping Uggla not only for the remainder of the year, but to sign him for 2011 – his final year of arbitration. The Marlins would like to build around Uggla, barring a trade that is too tempting to pass up.

It’s believed that their current 10-game homestand will determine whether the team is a buyer or seller by July 31st. Several names that could be sold off include infielder Jorge Cantu, outfielder Cody Ross, infielder Wes Helms and closer Leo Nunez.

The Rockies were believed to be candidate to trade for Cantu and Uggla since their starting shortstop Troy Tulowitzki is out with a broken wrist.
