Florida Marlins homestand will decide direction of season

By Allan

Joe Frisaro of MLB.com says the 10-game homestand of the Florida Marlins could determine whether the Marlins will be buyers or sellers by July 31.

“They haven’t directly told me, but it is obvious that these next 10 games are going to dictate what we’re doing come July 31,” manager Edwin Rodriguez said Thursday before the team’s workout at Sun Life Stadium. “The staff knows that. The players know that. Pretty much everyone knows that.”

“I think we have a very good team. I think we have to become more consistent. All the players know that. It’s a matter of performing on the field.”

Frisaro adds that trade candidates include: Cody Ross, Dan Uggla, Jorge Cantu, Nate Robertson, Ricky Nolasco, Leo Nunez and Wes Helms.

“It doesn’t bother me, because my opinion is this is a grown man’s game,” Helms said. “When the front office puts pressure on you to win, you’ve got to deal with it. You’ve got to go out there and play baseball. But they’re right. It’s time.”

“We all understand that the next couple of weeks are going to be very important of whether we’re going to be moving forward — some of us are going to be, unfortunately, gone,” Ross said. “We understand the business behind it. We understand we have to do our job, so we’re adding on players instead of subtracting.”
