7/26 13:26: Joe Capozzi of The Palm Beach Post tweets, “#Marlins being asked about Chris Volstad, Ricky Nolasco, Leo Nunez but fish reluctant to deal any of them”
7/26 11:41: One source close to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports says the team is “confused” as to their next step. Rosenthal notes that the Marlins are not certain sellers since they are only 6 1/2 games back in the wild-card race.
A sign that the Marlins are “confused” is the team’s lack of desire to trade outfielder Cody Ross. Rosenthal says the team is likely to non-tender him. he’s currently making $4.45 million this season, and he will earn more in his final season of arbitration. Teams would non-tender a player or in other words not offer a player a contract by December if they do not want to pay what he may command in arbitration. If he is non-tendered he will become a free agent and may sign with any club at any price.
Florida is reaching a crucial point in their schedule with four games against the NL wild-card leading San Francisco Giants. If the team gets swept by San Francisco, it will likely mean the team will become sellers by July 31st.
Currently the Rangers like third baseman Jorge Cantu, and there have been conflicting reports of the Braves’ interest in Ross.
