No deal appears imminent for the Los Angeles Dodgers, but manager Joe Torre is convinced that help will arrive by Saturday’s non-waiver Trade Deadline. Torre said the club is focused on about 10 pitchers.

“I have a sense we’ll do something,” said Torre. “Ned’s [General manager Ned Colletti] been talking to a number of clubs. We’re all thinking pitching, but not limiting it to pitching. My guess is we’ll do something. In my two years here, we have.”

Torre said he would welcome a starting or relief pitcher.

“It’s a toss-up for me,” Torre said.

It’s possible that the trade could occur before July 31. The team is in need of a starter for Saturday’s game, and Torre hinted to MLB.com that the pitcher could come from outside the organization.

“You can’t discount anybody,” Torre said. “We’ve talked about a lot of names.”
