Update – Cincinnati Reds make offer to Jason Isringhausen – expects to sign later today

By Allan

7/21 15:12: John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer says GM Walt Jocketty expects Isringhausen to sign later today. Fays guesses that Isringhausen could be on the big league mound in late August.

7/20 15:14: Free agent reliever Jason Isringhausen threw for the Cincinnati Reds today, and the team has offered him a contract, according to John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer. He tweets, “#Reds have made offer to Isringhausen. “We’ll know in the next day or 2,” Jocketty said. Isringn would need a couple of weeks to get ready.”

When manager Dusty Baker was asked about the throwing session, he said, “He looked good for a guy who’s been out a while. He looked strong.”

Yesterday, general manager Walt Jocketty said, “There’s not a lot available on the market,” Jocketty said. “I know these guys [Isringhausen and Russ Springer]. I know what they can do if they’re healthy and still able to perform at the level they were. They’ve been through it. They know what it’s all about. It fits in a little bit with our plan.”

Isringhausen, 37, has not pitched since 2009 with the Tampa Bay Rays where he went 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA in 9 appearances. The former All-Star reliever underwent Tommy John surgery last June. He has a relationship with Jocketty during the time Jocketty was the GM with the St. Louis Cardinals. He has also attracted interest from the Kansas City Royals, the St. Louis Cardinals, the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays.
