Mark Sheldon of MLB.com says that the Cincinnati Reds and right-handed pitcher Jason Isringhausen have agreed to a Minor League deal. Isringhausen will report to Triple-A Louisville.
Isringhausen threw for the Reds on Tuesday, and the team made an offer to him that day. When manager Dusty Baker was asked about the throwing session, he said, “He looked good for a guy who’s been out a while. He looked strong.”
Isringhausen, 37, has not pitched since 2009 with the Tampa Bay Rays where he went 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA in 9 appearances. The former All-Star reliever underwent Tommy John surgery last June. He has a relationship with Reds GM Walt Jocketty during the time Jocketty was the GM with the St. Louis Cardinals. He has also attracted interest from the Kansas City Royals, the St. Louis Cardinals, the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays.
